This is the first time I've ever requested anything like this. A friend of mine, Nicola, and her 12-year old daughter, Rose, recently took in a drug-addicted mom's teen son for 10 months. Last week the teen opted to go home.

Last night, Nicola and Rose were rewarded by having the teen break into their house, steal all their Christmas presents, and vandalize their home. Rose had saved $100 in babysitting jobs for several months to get Christmas presents for her family, all of which are now gone or destroyed. Additionally, about $1000 worth of vandalism damage was caused in the home.

Please help to give this lovely mom and daughter back their holiday by donating! It would mean a lot to me and would make some worthy people very happy! I'm sure we can raise enough if everyone contributes just a little for her!

You can donate here, and thanks! If you can't give, please say a prayer for them, and pass this entry and information to anyone you know.

A few more details can be found here:

These films all have a common thread, which will be easy to guess once you've answered a couple of them.

Simply guess the movie the quote is from. The year of the film is provided. And don't cheat by looking on a search engine such as imdb or google ;)

Comments are screened, so go ahead and take your guesses!

These should not be too bad. To help, I've provided the year of the film as well. Try to guess the films from the quotes below.

Looking up the answers through a search engine like google or IMDB is CHEATING!

1. "The Duchess dove at the Duke just when the Duke dove at the Doge. Now the Duke ducked, the Doge dodged, and the Duchess didn't. So the Duke got the Duchess, the Duchess got the Doge, and the Doge got the Duke!" (1956) The Court Jester, guessed by [personal profile] runeshower

2. "Hey, hey, I'm sorry, okay? Twenty-six years buried in the deepest, darkest jungle and I still became my father." (1995) Jumanji, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] jobethfun67

3. "If the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists." (1993) Jurassic Park, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] jobethfun67

4. "You can keep doing that forever, the dog is NEVER going to move." (2003)

5. "I'm scared of everything. I'm scared of what I saw, I'm scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you. " (1987)

Ok, here's one more crack at the movie meme game:

1. Pick 10 of your favourite movies
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

Here are the quotes..I tried to make them a bit easier than the last...:

1. "It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girl dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day."

2. "If you're gonna start lying about your age, I'd go with 27."

3. "I'm trusting you guys, and if you don't do what I say you'll end up like your buddies in the Mayan world over there, locked up. Do they look happy?"
Night At The Museum, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] melchar

4. "It's weird. I woke up this morning and I swear my boobs felt bigger. Do they look bigger to you?"
Bruce Almighty, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mama_hogswatch

5. "That's ok, he's perfectly welcome. One dog to another, eh?"
The Wizard of Oz, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] runeshower

6. "Ooh, ow, ee, ouch, ouch! This ground isn't nearly soft enough!"

7. "Men under strain can snap. Hurt themselves. Hurt others. That's why our job is talking, not yelling. You'll do better to think of this place like an intensive care ward in a hospital."

8. "Rick 'em, rack 'em, rock 'em, rake! Stick that sword into that snake!"
Aladdin, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] mama_hogswatch

9. "Who wants a beard? Well, beatniks for one, folk singers and motorbike riders. Y'know. All those hip, jazzy, super cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It's in the fridge, daddy-o! Are you hip to the jive? Can you dig what I'm layin' down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul brother!"

10. "You better do something, you idiot, because in ten minutes you're going to have two hundred tons of locomotive smashing through Central Station on its way to Marshall Field's."
Silver Streak, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] melchar

2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions.

Dream #19

This one was interesting. I was wandering around a dormitory checking out all the rooms. I'm not sure if it was college or some other place. I'm not sure what I was looking for, exactly, I think I was just curious. Every door was open. Most of the rooms were in disarray, with none of the beds made. One room in particular was elaborately decorated, and had what was a sofa or futon visible from the entrance, the bed off to the side. At first I thought it had been done so that any guest visiting would be comfortable sleeping there, but when I checked again, the potential "sleeping space" was actually decorated with a display of plants and various trinkets (can't remember any specific ones). Funny thing, though, none of the plants were green...they were all circus-like colored with oranges and purples and reds.

After I had checked the rooms I found myself in a downstairs kitchen, there was one thin glass wall that offered a clear view of a snowy landscape outside, though I wasn't cold myself. A large white wolf some distance away immediately noticed me and started madly barking, rushing up to the glass wall, definitely hostile (wolves, of course, do not bark in real life). But his barks were completely silent, I could not hear a thing. Then he stopped abruptly and started howling (again, I could not hear it). At that point it suddenly occurred to me that he would have no trouble crashing through the thin glass wall if he wanted to get me, so I started to back away. It was at that point the sound of the cat jumping up on the bed startled me to wake up quite abruptly.

Abundant am I
Where it is wet, (on the beach)
or where it's dry (in the desert)

I build (sand castles and dunes)
And I destroy (through erosion)

I am used to clean (sand blasting or sandpaper)
Or to make a mess (when it spills)

I make men blind (when I blow into their eyes, or during a sandstorm)
And help men to see. (when made into glass, for windows or glasses)

What am I?

ANSWER: SAND

So I just received a very sad call from the director of my theater of choice. Juliane Miller, the young woman who played Ms. Flannery this past summer in Thoroughly Modern Millie, died of a heart attack at age 20. Last year she was an incredible hoop dancer in Annie Get Your Gun, and one of the Mutes in The Fantasticks. I'm going to miss her quite a bit...she brought a lot of wonderful talent to the stage and had a great voice and dance ability. Boston University will miss her. Apparently it was quite sudden. I don't know all the details, I didn't talk to the director very much, but the theater is closed for the month of September and they will be holding a memorial for her once all the kids come back. The director said he would keep me informed. And if I need to, hopefully I can get an evening off to attend whatever service they plan for her. Whatever it is, it will be paramount to whatever else I'm doing.

Goodbye Juliane. I will miss your lovely stage presence.

In the game, there are seven ways for a batter to reach first base. Hitting a single is one. Can you name the other six? (Comments screened; answer later).

The Instructions:

Bold all of the following TV shows you've seen three or more episodes of in your lifetime. Bold and italicize a show if you've seen every episode. Add up to 3 additional shows (please keep the list in alphabetical order).

I don't watch nearly as much as I used to, hence mostly the older shows.  I added "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr", "Big Love", and "Sledge Hammer!"
